Description

Cousin of red mullet, red gurnard (Mullus barbatus) mesures about 60cm. Its head is armored with bony plates and its cylindrical body ends in a tapered tail. Of an orange-red color, the gurnard mullet resembles the red mullet. The red mullet lives in the sandy and rocky bottoms where it feeds on small crustaceans and shellfish.

The flesh of the red mullet is firm and white. It is amazing when grilled on the barbecue or cooked in the oven.
