How to prepare traditional shallots?
Take a garlic clove and place the blade of a knife on the top of the clove. Apply gentle pressure to the knife with the palm of your hand to crush the clove slightly, making it easier to remove the skin. Remove the outer skin from the crushed garlic clove. Place the peeled clove under the blade of the knife and use the flat of the blade to crush the clove flat. Once crushed, you can finely chop the garlic by making cuts perpendicular and parallel to the knife blade. Be sure to keep your fingers safe as you hold the garlic by the uncut end.
You can also use a garlic press to quickly crush garlic cloves or mince them with a sharp knife.
