Description

The White Venus, often called Spisula, is a burrowing bivalve mollusc.

It forms very dense beds and lives buried in the shell sands of the eastern Atlantic, from the south of Iceland to the coast of Morocco (up to 50m deep).

A suspension feeder, it feeds on particles passing through a siphon on the surface of the sediment.
In Normandy, it is mainly found in the Bay of Granville.
