Tuna, Thunnus albacares, is a species of tuna characterized by the red color of its flesh and by its large size (up to more than 3m). This pelagic species lives between 500 and 1000m deep where it hunts mackerel, herring and sardines.
Rich in vitamins in minerals and proteins, yellowfin tuna is also rich in omega 3 which makes it a healthy and delicious food of choice.
Very popular especially in Japan where red tuna is consumed in sushi but equally as delicious cooked. Fried like a meat steak: it's a treat. The tuna loin or tuna heart is probably the best piece of red tuna.
The tuna from which Luximer draws its loins, Thunnus albacares, is not the tuna whose stocks are threatened with overfishing (Thunnus maccoyii). We are also anxious to offer quality products to our customers, as well as safeguarding the marine ecosystem.
